When you embark on a new journey, in this case on the journey to start your own jewelry line, it’s hard to think of one word to encompass it all. I went back and forth on a brand name that would not only define my jewelry but my heritage and ultimately me. Kajs is a nickname for Karin in Swedish and a pet name from my family, and now the name that embodies my personal work.

And nothing makes a piece of jewelry more special than knowing whose love and danger is behind it. Take one step into my studio and you will see what all goes into it -- beyond a vision, it takes a variety of tools, a work area of my own with space to be creative. One of the best things about my studio is that people passing by can see the creating in action. They can easily stop by with any questions, special orders or just watch it all happen. About a year ago I left my job as a dietitian to pursue my love for jewelry design. I set up my bench at 88 Maryland Ave. in Annapolis, and created my own line of jewelry called Kajs. My pieces reflect the contrast between the polished, smooth lines and rough, uncut textures of nature. On this blog I will share my creative process with you, as I discuss the inspiration for pieces in progress. I will also offer ideas on how to style my pieces.
